IWLGA CHAMPIONSHIPS 2018
Sixty-five ladies took part in the IWLGA Championships held at Shanklin & Sandown Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday the 21st and 22nd of May 2018.

The Monday began with the 18-hole medal qualifying rounds. Joanne Wright (S&S) was both the scratch and handicap winner in the Championship division, Rose Green (Ryde) won the scratch prize with Joan Martin (FB) taking the handicap prize in Silver division 2 and Penny Last (S&S) won both the scratch and handicap in the Bronze division.
Monday afternoon saw the quarterfinals of the matchplay decided for all three divisions with the semi-finals and finals played on the Tuesday.
​
The Championship final was contested by Joanne Wright and Sammi Keen (FB), Sammi has won the title for the last three years and recently reached the quarterfinals at the County Championship Week held at Royal Jersey G C where she also learnt that she has been selected to play for the Hampshire 1st team during County Match Week next month.
​
Sammi ran out the winner after an exciting match that finished on the 16th green.
​
In Silver division 2 Rose Green beat Stephanie Hart (S&S) also on the 16th while in the Bronze division Penny Last sank a long putt on the 18th green to secure the win from fellow club-mate Jackie Stephen.
​
Tuesday also saw the running of the Sibyl Browne Vase, which is a stableford competition for all handicaps. The first three prizewinners were all from Shanklin & Sandown with Angela Lassey beating Joy Jenkins on countback, both with 36 points and Jean Robertson coming in third with 34 points.
IWLGA President Trish Ball and Captain Gillian Fahy presented the trophies and prizes.

The final of the IWLGA Fourball Better Ball was held on Monday (24th September) at Osborne Golf Club. Thirty-three pairs of ladies started out in the Knock out competition back in April with pairs from Freshwater Bay G C and Shanklin & Sandown making it to the final stage.
​
Jan Godden & Sue Thompson (FB) and Jean Munds & Penny Last (S&S) battled it out to win the prestigious Rosebowls. The Sandown pair were quickest off the mark by winning the 1st hole and keeping the lead until the 4th when the Freshwater ladies won a run of holes to lead three up. The Sandown ladies fought gallantly but Freshwater pushed home their advantage and won the contest on the 16th green by 4&2.
Gillian Fahy refereed the match and then presented the trophies.
