Results I 2026

IWLGA PRESIDENT'S FROLIC 2026

The Isle of Wight Ladies' Golf Association started their 2026 golfing season at Cowes Golf Club on 23rd March with the President's Frolic.

Association President, Maggie Ankers hosted the event which included the starting of a Texas Scramble competition with 21 teams taking part.  Many of the players wore yellow in support of the Mountbatten Hospice which was the chosen charity for this event.

In top spot with a score of 33.5 was the team of Sammi Keen (Freshwater), Angie Adams (Cowes) and Shirley Mawdsley (Osborne).

In second place were Bev Whorwood (Shanklin & Sandown), Shelagh Merrifield (Westridge) and Jenny Tracey (Ryde) with a score of 34.5 and in third position were the team of Rose Green (Ryde), Elaine White (Newport) and Netty Smallman (Osborne) with a nett 36.0.

IWLGA SIBYL BENNETT CUP

Newport Golf Club was the venue for this year's Sibyl Bennett Cup competition which forms part of the IWLGA annual championships.

Eighteen ladies took part in the stableford competition with Lynne Backshall from Ryde winning the trophy with 39 points.  Taking second place was Bev Carroll from Shanklin and Sandown with 37 points on count back from Elaine White from Newport who also scored 37 points.

IWLGA Captain Stephanie Hart presented the prizes with President Maggie Ankers.

     IWLGA ISA BALLARD ROSEBOWLS

Thirty-five pairs took part in the Isa Ballard Rosebowls competition held at Osborne Golf Club on 15th June.

The winning team were Viv Tomlinson and Jacky Cook from Shanklin and Sandown Golf Club with a magnificent score of 46 points.  Ann Geary and Melanie Cross from Osborne secured second spot with 44 points and Jude Ferris and Maggie Ankers from Cowes took third place with 41 points on count back from Jean Langley (Osborne) and Kathy Elliott (Shanklin & Sandown) and Hazel Smith and Ronnie Hirst from Shanklin and Sandown.

Liz Morris and Ann Smith from Freshwater Bay won the Best Morning score with 40 points and Penny Diez and Jackie Evitts also from Freshwater took the Best Afternoon score with 40 points.

The prizes were presented by IWLGA President Maggie Ankers.
